Pilates

Physiotherapists from our practice lead functional exercise classes and post-natal exercise classes for new mothers at locations around Great Western Sydney.

Class times have been designed to fit in around normal work hours so that participants can attend classes at a time that is convenient to them.

Functional exercise locations and times

Blacktown

  • Monday 5:00pm – 6:00pm
  • Wednesday 5:00pm – 6:00pm

Norwest

  • Monday 5:00pm – 6:00pm
  • Monday 6.00pm – 7.00pm

Penrith

  • Wednesday 5.30pm – 6.30pm

Post-natal exercise classes

An initiative of Westmead Private Hospital, these classes are designed to make exercise as accessible as possible for new mums. Post-natal exercise classes is a series of mat-based exercises aimed primarily at improving core strength following childbirth, The exercises incorporate:

  • cardiovascular conditioning
  • weight bearing exercise to focus on improving bone mineral density
  • stretches, and
  • abdominal and pelvic floor strength

At post-natal exercise classes you’re welcome to bring your newborn along with you. During the class, you can stop exercising at any time to feed or comfort your baby, rejoining the class when you feel comfortable.

How soon can I start classes?

You need to have a signed medical clearance form from your obstetrician at your six week review before you can start the class.

Cost and Practicalities

Every woman who delivers her baby at Westmead Private Hospital is entitled to three FREE post-natal exercise classes. Additional classes are also available at a cost. Please contact us for more information.
