2015 Netball Round Up: Swifts and PDNA State Championships

Netball NSW Swifts

Paula Peralta (Penrith Clinic), Daniel Vukovic (Westmead Clinic) and Samantha Rand (Practice Dietician) have recently finished the season with the NSW Swifts. Unfortunately the Swifts succumbed to the Queensland Firebirds in the final 15 seconds of the game, going down 57-56.

It was disappointing for the Swifts who were in the lead for the entire game, but couldn’t withstand the Firebirds heat in the dying stages of the final quarter. After a shaky start to the year the Swifts weren’t given a chance by many bookies, but they finished the season strongly, dominating in three out of four quarters of the final.

Standout Goalkeeper Sharni Layton was awarded MVP for the final series.

Overall the Swifts had a very successful campaign, with five players selected for the Australian Diamonds Squad to compete in the upcoming Netball World Cup.

PDNA State Championships

Nathanial Harnett (Penrith Clinic) recently attended the State Championships Tournament held in Illawarra looking after the PDNA u/17s, Opens, o/35s, o/40s and o/45s. After a busy long weekend, and a particularly busy last day (for Nathanial) the o/40s ended up finishing second demonstrating a fantastic effort by the team.

Nathanial thoroughly enjoyed his time in Wollongong and looks forward to many State Championships to come.

State Age Championships

Stephanie Randall (Penrith Clinic) attended the State Age Championships competition held in June at Baulkham Hills. She looked after the Penrith representative teams from u/12s through to the u/15s. It was a busy three days, with many close games and plenty of singing by the teams. All teams performed well, particularly the u/14s who ended up finishing 3rd. Congratulations to all the teams and everyone who was involved. Stephanie enjoyed her time and is looking forward to next year.
