Mathew Ah Chow from our Blacktown rooms recently competed in the National Full Contact Karate Tournament, which was held in Geelong Victoria, on the 28th June.
After winning the middle weight division Mathew went on to fight for the light weight champion title. After winning this fight he then fought the heavy weight champion, who was 25kg heavier. Despite the size difference, Mathew was able to use superior skill including speed and footwork to win the event on points.
At each national tournament the best technical athlete and the most spirited fighter who displayed the most courage are selected. We are pleased to announce that Mathew received both these awards.
The tournament was also used to select the team to represent Australia at the Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in September. Mathew will now go on to represent Australia in the middle weight division in September. We congratulate Mathew on his achievements and wish him all the best with his training.
Mathew joins a group of physiotherapists within our practice group who have had the honor of representing Australia as either athletes or as medical team officials.
